Wanted fugitive Michael Lomas has been formally handed over to the Hawks. Lomas has been extradited to South Africa by SAPS Interpol. The flight from the United Kingdom carrying him landed earlier in the day at the O.R Tambo International Airport in Johannesbu rg.

Lomas was an Eskom employee and is wanted for fraud and corruption in excess of R1.5 billion- that happened between 2008 and 2018 at the Kusile Power station. He was previously arrested and was granted bail, before fleeing the country to the UK. He was arrested in London in 2021 and in August 2024, when his extradition was approved .

Police Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Van Dykearler said, "All measures are in place. It is a collaboration between the SAPS Interpol and as well as ACSA (Airports Company South Africa). All matters are considered in terms of the extraditee. Our responsibility is to make sure that there's a safe arrival and a handing over of this extraditee to the team from the directorate of priority crime investigations. So, that will include his health and safety."

He is expected to appear at the Kempton Park Magistrates' Court within 48 hours for a first appearance and to be formally charged.
