Limpopo Govt Applies For Disaster Relief Fund After Heavy Rains
The Limpopo government says it has applied for disaster relief funds from the National Treasury.
It says it urgently needs about R1.5 billion to repair roads and bridges that have been damaged following persistent heavy rains in the province.
Residents of Modimolle in the Waterberg District say theres extensive damage to road infrastructure in their area.
They say floods have washed away some tarred roads.
Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba says, If you have got around thirty-six bridges that have been damaged and more than twenty-six roads been swept away you are not talking anything which is probably less than R1.5 billion. I am talking about the roads only. I have already indicated that our schools equally have been damaged and the last time I checked we needed R500 million for some of the schools.
