Limpopo Dept Notes Complaints From Food Outlet Owners, Spaza Shops
The Limpopo Department of Economic Development says it has taken note of complaints from some owners of food outlets, including spaza shops.
The owners say they missed last Fridays deadline to register their businesses because municipal officials and traditional leaders have been charging high levies for recommendation letters.
The departments spokesperson, Zaid Kalla, says the matter of levies that traditional leaders are charging has been referred to the House of Traditional Leaders.
Kalla says they have also escalated the matter to the ministerial task team dealing with spaza shops.
This is the matter between the applicant and his or her traditional authority. Within the rural setups or townships, the matter was communicated to the house of traditionality on the 9th of December, 2024. It was also escalated to the ministerial task team to hear that some of them do not know what they consider to be exorbitant charges by their traditional authorities. We hope that the compromise can be reached between themselves and their traditional authorities.
