National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says law enforcement operations have been intensified across the country, to crack down on wholesalers and spaza shops that are selling fake and expired goods.
Masemola was speaking during a media briefing in Pretoria this morning on the governments interventions regarding foodborne illnesses and illicit trade.
With regard to law enforcement, we will continue these integrated operations and we will continue to get into a lot of warehouses countrywide to ensure that we know what is contained there and know what is being transported so that there isnt further illegal stuff that proliferates in the country, says Masemola
Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen says they are yet to confirm whether the Terbufos that was found in local spaza shops, is not produced in South Africa.
It is my view and my opinion and I imagine it will be confirmed shortly the Terbufos that have been found in the South African spaza shop situation as well as in some of the other shops, do not emanate from local manufacturers. So, when one looks at what has been found in the spaza shops it differs from the color and the texture of locally produced Terbufos, said Steenhuisen.
