Landlords Urged To Check Their Students Are Registered With Nsfas
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme NSFAS has urged landlords of private student accommodation to verify whether a student is registered with the scheme before providing them with accommodation.
The financial aid scheme faced a myriad of challenges this year, which include the non-payment of private student accommodation, resulting in the eviction of many students.
NSFAS Administrator Freeman Nomvalo says landlords need to confirm that students are registered.
We make sure at the beginning of the year that every student that gets on board onto a residence, that student is properly funded, the landlord should make sure that the landlord gets that confirmation. Because coming to me in June and saying youve been having five students but we dont know whether those students are funded by me or not does not help.
So, for students to be onboarded at any accommodation there needs to be confirmation that those students are funded. We then encourage landlords to immediately, if those students are claiming to be funded by NSFAS immediately contact NSFAS, explains Nomvalo.
