Lack Of Information Sharing Causes Spaza Shop Registration Problems
Owners of food outlets including tuck and spaza shops in the Region G Municipality in Johannesburg have accused government of failing to adequately inform members of the public about the registration of their businesses.
President Cyril Ramaphosa postponed the registration of the businesses in November last year in response to issues of food safety.
Chairperson of the shops in the municipality Tshepo Mokhele says officials are not giving residents important information such as the required supporting documents and the fees needed for the registration process.
People have been registered last year, till today their papers havent been approved because they themselves dont even visit to check your shop how it is. They only look documents but to come and verify, theyre not doing that. They dont do workshops again - to say - people if you want to open a spaza shop for locally, this is what you do, we need 123 - they should at least give people information. Now people dont have information on them.
