La Wildfires: New Blaze Prompts Mass Evacuations In County

A new wildfire in Los Angeles has prompted an exodus of tens of thousands of people evacuating the region, Cape town Etc reports.

The Hughes fire ignited 72km northwest of the city of Los Angeles on Wednesday morning, 22 January, near Castaic Lake in an area that borders several schools and residential areas.

Within several hours, the fire grew to more than 10 000 acres,' fuelled by winds and dry brush, as reported by the BBC .

Currently, no homes or businesses have been damaged by the wildfire, with officials having expressed confidence that they can get it under control.

The Hughes fire is north of the two previous fires that have inflicted damage on a number of neighbourhoods this month .
