The KwaZulu-Natal Government has made it compulsory for all its municipalities to have clean audits. This was amongst many resolutions announced by Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli after a two-day Lekgotla in Durban.

It was a government meeting involving all key stakeholders including the provincial government leaders, councillors and CEOs of public entities. A key priority is accelerating service delivery and dealing with non-performance.

The two-day Lekgotla also agreed to implement accountability and consequence management for senior managers and accounting officers in government. KZN Premier Ntuli wants all municipalities to obtain clean audits.

The meeting also raised concern about the so-called construction mafias, who are notorious for disrupting major construction sites, demanding a stake in development projects. The provincial government said it has organized a meeting with the construction industry.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlement, Siboniso Duma has been appointed as the leader of government business under the Government of Provincial Unity. KZN Premier Thami Ntuli says he believes Duma will use his experience to accelerate service delivery and grow the economy.
