Kzn Police To Increase Stations, Officers Amid High Crime

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says they are looking to increase the number of stations and officers in Pietermaritzburg due to the persistently high crime levels in the area.

The Plessislaer policing precinct in Pietermaritzburg is among the stations with the highest recorded cases of contact crimes, such as murder and robbery in the country.

Provincial government leaders and police top brass met with concerned residents yesterday.

Mkhwanazi says, "When you have the unity on the ground it is not the same, so that is why we are pleading with the head office to increase the capacity in this area, but for now we have the study to try to demarcate the area, to develop the neighboring stations and there are three police stations that are helping this one. "

"Some of the developments in these areas will be moved to these police stations and then we will be adding more satellite stations. We will be putting some of the areas in this part in this police precinct that is going to help."
