Kzn Police Arrest 11 000 Suspects, Recover 287 Firearms In Operations
Police in KwaZulu-Natal say 11 000 suspects have been arrested and 287 firearms recovered during its February operations.
The suspects were arrested for various categories of offences in different areas of the province. Of these, approximately 217 suspects were arrested for rape and over 2 000 suspects were arrested for assault withintent to cause grievous bodily harm and common assault.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says on property-related crimes, 439 suspects were nabbed for cases such as burglaries at residential and business premises, stock theft, as well as theft of and theft out of motor vehicles. 626 dangerous weapons, inclusive of 562 knives, 12 axes, and 20 machetes, were removed from society.
One hundred and 63 suspects were arrested in the process. 569 undocumented foreign nationals were also arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act. One thousand one hundred and seven people were arrested for liquor-related crimes such as drinking and being drunk in a public place, illegal dealing and distribution of liquor, and illegal macro manufacturing of liquor. During the operations, police also recovered 34 cattle, 46 goats, 33 sheep and four horses, says Netshiunda.
