kzn naptosa says no job losses as budget cuts loom

The National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa) in KwaZulu-Natal says engagements are ongoing with Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube, in finding alternatives to the budget cuts announced by National Treasury for the department.

Government has agreed to a 7.5% wage increase for teachers and other public servants for 2023/2024, but did not increase provincial budgets accordingly.

Naptosa KZN CEO, Thirona Moodley says the shortfall in the budget equates to around 7000 jobs for the province, with no directive that jobs will be cut.

Moodley says the union will not entertain any conversation about cutting of posts.

She says, "Naptosa is of the view that National Treasury does not give education the budget it deserves because there is a constant struggle in all the provinces to make ends meet and deliver quality education."
