Kzn Government Assesses Damage From Heavy Rains
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs is evaluating the damage caused by heavy rains across parts of the province this week.
Areas affected include the uThukela and uMgungundlovu districts.
Disaster management teams remain on high alert, with concerns raised about the increased number of road crashes due to the persistent rain.
Department spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says, "There are a number of areas across KZN that are affected by the extreme weather conditions which started on Sunday. These areas include low-lying areas, affecting roads, infrastructure, community halls, and a number of schools. Disaster management teams are still dealing with the extent of the assessments, which would give us the full extent of the damage."
The KwaZulu-Natal Road Transport Inspectorate has urged caution as the adverse weather continues to impact safety and infrastructure in the province.
