Taxi commuters in KwaZulu-Natal continue to face significant challenges as the strike by the Long Distance Taxi Association remains ongoing. Many passengers are struggling to find alternative transportation, with some even resorting to sleeping at the Durban taxi rank while waiting for a resolution.
The strike has been sparked by claims from members of the association that the Department of Transport is not issuing necessary permits. As a result, commuters are left stranded and frustrated. Some passengers, like one from Ndwendwe trying to reach Empangeni, have expressed the difficulty of finding taxis, noting the lack of vehicles and the minimal presence of other passengers at the rank.
One commuter, realizing taxis weren't operating, opted to take a bus to Harrismith instead, although this change of plan caused added difficulty due to the lack of proper preparation. Commuters are urging all stakeholders to collaborate and resolve the issues as soon as possible to alleviate the ongoing disruption.
