Koeberg Unit 2 Synchronised To National Grid
Eskom has successfully synchronised Unit 2 of the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in Cape Town to the national grid.
This follows a maintenance programme which will increase the units lifespan by 20 years.
The power utility says in a statement that the unit will contribute 930 megawatts to the national grid and will in turn increase its capacity by 2500 megawatts by March 2025.
Eskom Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says, The maintenance programme for Unit 2 included the replacement of three steam generators, comprehensive inspections, and refuelling activities to ensure the reactors continued safe and efficient performance. These enhancements align with Eskoms broader strategy to secure the future of Koebergs reactors, which are critical to the countrys energy security.
