Knysna Mayor Tsengwa Ousted In Vote Of No Confidence

The African National Congress ANC Knysna mayor, Aubrey Tsengwa has been ousted from office in a motion of no confidence following a council meeting.

The Economic Freedom Fighters EFF, which is the ANCs coalition partner in the council, and the Knysna Independent Movement brought the motion.

Tsengwa has faced several motions of no confidence since he was elected mayor in August 2022, and also faced criticism as Knysna continues to face a host of service delivery problems.

Most recently, Knysnas acting municipal manager, Phaahle Simon Malepeng alleged that he had received a death threat from Tsengwa. Police are still investigating the matter.

Tsengwa will continue to be a councillor in ward 8, while Deputy Executive Mayor, Alberto Marbi, will serve as acting executive mayor until a new mayor is elected.
