The King David Mowbray Golf Club KDM in Cape Town played host to the 2025 South African Deaf Open and National Trials this past week, reports Cape town Etc .

The event not only marked the resurgence of the tournament after a 15-year break but also served as a pivotal platform for talent identification ahead of the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo.

Over three sun-kissed days in March, golfers competed across three divisions: the Men's Gross, Men's Stableford, and the Ladies Strokeplay.

Each format brought its own challenges and excitement, particularly the Stableford division, which utilised a points-based scoring system. This encouraged players to adopt a more aggressive style, allowing for enjoyable pacing and the opportunity to recover from minor setbacks.

The Men's Gross division culminated in a heart-stopping showdown between 31-year-old Charles Williams and American golfer Jay-Jay Botha, both tied for the lead entering the final round. The suspense was palpable as they battled it out over 18 tense holes.
