Katy Perry and Gayle King are set to fly into space on an all-female mission.

On Thursday, February 27, it was announced that the pop star and broadcast journalist will be part of an all-female crew that will fly into space on a Blue Origin space tourism rocket owned by tech billionaire Jeff Bezos .

The crew will also include Bezos' journalist and licensed pilot fiance Lauren Snchez, film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and research scientist Amanda Nguyen.

In a statement, Blue Origin saidL 'Snchez is honoured to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come.'

The mission, which was revealed on 'CBS Mornings', will be the first all-female flight crew since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova's spaceflight in 1963.
