Jp Smith Calls Driver's Licence Debacle 'unacceptable'

The City of Cape Town faces a crisis with over 60 000 pending licence applications as production halts due to a broken machine, leaving motorists in limbo, reports Cape town Etc .
City's committee member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, has expressed his dismay at the ongoing delays, pointing out that not a single driving licence card has been produced since the applications were submitted.
To date, not a single card has been received for those applications from the Driving Licence Card Account DLCA in Pretoria a national entity responsible for producing driving licence cards for the entire country, Smith stated.
The crux of the issue lies with the production machine, which has once again broken down. Repairs can only be conducted abroad, leaving many questions about when the situation will actually be resolved.
Smith highlighted this recurring problem, stating, We experienced the same issue at the start of 2022, and the fact that nothing has changed three years later is an absolute indictment on those responsible,
