Jonas Appointed To Mend Us Ties After Rasools Departure

Former Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas has been appointed as South Africas new Special Envoy to the United States of America. His appointment follows Ebrahim Rasools expulsion from the US last month. Presidential spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya says he brings extensive governmental experience to his new diplomatic role.
This appointment underscores Mr. Jonass distinguished career and continued commitment to advancing South Africas national and economic interests. For decades, South Africa and the United States of America have maintained a historical and strategic relationship in the interest of our country, our region and the rest of our continent, President Ramaphosa remains committed to rebuilding and maintaining this relationship for more decades, on the basis of mutual respect, recognition of each others sovereignty and benefit for our respective peoples.
Jonas will lead negotiations, foster strategic partnerships and engage with U.S. government officials and private-sector leaders to promote our nation's interests. He is one of four Presidential Investment Envoys that was appointed in 2018 to facilitate investment into South Africa. Jonas has extensive governmental experience for his new diplomatic role.
