Joburg Vip Protection Budget Should Be Spent On Basic Services: Da

The Democratic Alliance DA in Johannesburg says the citys VIP protection budget should be spent on providing basic services to residents.

Yesterday, the High Court in Johannesburg ruled that the citys VIP protection policy was unconstitutional.

It said municipal officials were provided with excessive security without proper threat assessments.

Under the policy, the Executive Mayor had been allocated ten bodyguards, the Speaker eight and members of mayoral committees and committee chairpersons between two and five.

The DAs Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku says they welcome the court judgment.
