'it's On The Up' : Benni Mccarthy Hails South African Football

Former Manchester United striker and coach Benni McCarthy has praised the growing quality of South African football, describing it as being on the rise.

McCarthys comments follow Bafana Bafanas impressive third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations AFCON in Ivory Coast earlier this year. The South African national team has also secured qualification for next years tournament, topping their group, which included Uganda, Congo Brazzaville, and South Sudan.

In domestic football, the Premier Soccer League PSL has been dominated by Mamelodi Sundowns, who have claimed seven consecutive titles. However, the new season has brought an exciting twist, with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates - who have finished as runners-up in the last two seasons - mounting a strong challenge for the league title.

Pirates and Sundowns are currently tied at the top of the PSL standings, each with 21 points from eight matches, making for an exciting title race. This is a departure from previous seasons when Sundowns typically won the league with little competition.
