intrepid launches rail trips to decarbonise travel

In an effort to replace internal flights with less carbon-intensive options, small-group adventure travel company, Intrepid Travel, has launched a new range of tours dedicated to rail travel that includes 40 trips and the three new itineraries Trans-Mongolian Railway Adventure;Express to the Orient: Paris to Istanbul; andParis to Rome by Rail.

The tours will cater for the rising demand for train travel, with Intrepid data showing that 75% of travellers are hoping to take a train on their next trip. Furthermore, 87% said they would consider an alternative form of transport during their travels if it reduced their carbon footprint and 31% saying they would do so even if it meant taking a longer route.

The launch reflects Intrepids long-term product development plans as part of its global decarbonisation strategy.

Intrepids rail journeys allow customers to travel more slowly, experience more of the countryside and have more opportunities for local interaction.

Each rail trip is accompanied by one of Intrepids local leaders, who will not only help travellers navigate complex routes and stations, but also maximise the experiences during rest stops and overnight stays. The tours will have an average group size of 10-12 travellers.
