Inter Edge Past Monza To Tighten Grip On Serie A Lead
Inter Milan survived a major scare against bottom-placed Monza to claim a hard-fought 3-2 victory on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of Serie A.
The defending champions now sit four points clear of second-placed Napoli, who face Fiorentina on Sunday.
Despite being overwhelming favourites against a struggling Monza side with just 14 points this season, Inter found themselves trailing by two goals in the first half.
Marko Arnautovic pulled one back just before the break, giving Inter momentum as they dominated possession in the second half. Hakan Calhanoglu equalised in the 64th minute before Lautaro Martinez secured the win in the 77th minute with a header that deflected off Monza defender Giorgos Kyriakopoulos.
Though Inter endured a nervy evening, the victory piles pressure on Napoli, who are winless in their last five matches.
