Instrument Landing Maintenance At King Phalo Airport Completed

The suspension of the instrument landing system at the King Phalo Airport in East London has been uplifted for operation as maintenance on it is now complete.

Before change in status, the airport experienced a number of delays and flight cancellations due to planes unable to land in poor weather.

The spokesperson for Air Traffic and Navigation Systems ATNS, Mphilo Dhlamini, says this will go a long way in addressing flight challenges at the airport.

As a result of this development, flight operations are expected to improve, reducing the likelihood of flight disruptions as witnessed recently with cancellations, diversions and delays due to inclement weather conditions. ATNS appreciates the patience exercised by the airlines traveling passengers business sector the tourism community and entire residents of Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality during the maintenance programme of the instrument flight procedures in various airports across the country.
