Initiate In Bloem Hospital After Attack
A 19-year-old from an initiation school near Marquad in the Free State is fighting for his life in a Bloemfontein hospital after he was attacked during a traditional training session.
29-year-old Maine Modise has been remanded in custody after he was charged with attempted murder. He allegedly hit the teenager with a knobkerrie on the head causing him to lose consciousness.
The incident is reported to have happened on December 14 but was only reported six days later when the Marquard police Initiation School coordinator, visited the school for monitoring.
According to police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring the initiate was taken to a doctor in Senekal.
The doctor referred him to hospital in Bethlehem and Bethlehem Hospital referred him to Bloemfontein where he is now. His condition is unknown but he seems to be in a very serious condition. So far a case of attempted murder is under investigation and the suspect has been arrested. He appeared in court yesterday and his case was postponed to January 2025 where he will seek an official bail application.
