'i'm Loyal To John': Hill-lewis Dismisses Da Leadership Challenge Speculation
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has affirmed his loyalty to DA federal leader John Steenhuisen, dismissing speculation that he might challenge him in the party's next leadership election.
Speaking at the Cape Town Press Club on Thursday, Hill-Lewis unequivocally said that he has no intention of running against Steenhuisen, whom he described as a close friend.
Let me be as unambiguous as possible I can be. I am personally very loyal to John. He is a dear friend of mine and I have absolutely no intention of standing against him as long he wants to stand, IOL quoted Hill-Lewis as saying .
I am certainly not going to stand against him. There is no universe in which that is possible, that will not happen. I hope that is unambiguous, he said when answering questionsThe statement comes amid recent reports suggesting possible leadership contests within the DA, including speculation that Hill-Lewis could be a candidate to challenge Steenhuisen.
However, DA federal chairperson Ivan Meyer dismissed these claims, confirming that the party's next elective congress is scheduled for April 2026, in line with its constitution.
