Ifp Has To Audit Branches Ahead Of 2025 Elective Conference Analyst

Political analyst Sandile Swana suggests that the Inkatha Freedom Party IFP must conduct a thorough audit of its branches before holding its elective conference next year. This step is crucial to address issues such as dual membership and infiltration within the party.

Originally, the IFP, under the leadership of Velenkosini Hlabisa, was expected to hold its elective conference this year to elect a new leader. However, the party has announced that the conference will now take place between July and August 2025.

Swana explains that the IFP must tackle the internal challenges it faces, including potential power struggles, particularly for the leadership position once held by the late Mangosuthu Buthelezi. These power contests could lead to the creation of fake branches and other tactics aimed at undermining Hlabisa's position. Additionally, the issue of dual membership, where individuals belong to both the IFP and other parties, has become a growing concern that the party must address.
