Iecs Case Postponed Over Unescorted Election Materials In Kzn

The Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court has postponed the case against Musawenkosi Mnikathi, an area manager for the Independent Electoral Commission IEC, who faces charges for allegedly transporting election materials without a police escort during the general elections on May 29.

Members of the uMKhonto weSizwe MK Party who laid the complaint against Mnikathi attended the case.

Defence advocate Ashleigh Jennings says the case was postponed because the prosecutor is sick.

What is happening today is that we came back and we have got electricity and we have water, but we dont have a prosecutor, so the matter has been adjourned to the 26th so that our application can be dealt with. After that, I hope I will able to give you a full interview but at the moment I cannot say much because the matter is still in court.

Meanwhile, the MK Partys spokesperson for the Moses Mabhida region, Carry Ngcobo has expressed their frustrations over the delays.
