Iec To Continue Encouraging Youth Participation In Future Elections

The Independent Electoral Commission IEC says it is continuing with its drive, to encourage youth participation in future elections.

The commission is taking its drive to one of the far-flung areas of the North West, Amalia near Schweizer Reneke at Obang Secondary School, on Tuesday.

This is where Grade 11 and 12 learners will be urged to register to vote.

IEC spokesperson in the North West, Dr Tumelontle Thiba says, We realised that there are some gaps in young peoples aspirations and need that we could easily address. One of those that really touched us and made us decide that we are going back to that school is that there were Grade 12 learners who had not applied for admission at a tertiary institution.

We would, therefore, save a potential big future on account of them not being able to pursue post-school education in any form. We learned that there were more matric graduates, twenty-five or so that universities could admit.
