iconic saxon reinvents itself

Iconic Johannesburg property the Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa has unveiled its newly-refurbished dining and relaxation areas and launched a range of exciting new culinary and experiential offerings.

The fine dining restaurant Qunu, along with the Olive Bar, the Piano Lounge, The Terrace and the lobby have all been redesigned under the custodianship of renowned interior designer Nelson Kubheka of Ommni Design.

Inclusive design has been a cornerstone of this project, said Kubheka. It underscores the significance of local craftsmanship and collaboration. By partnering closely with local contractors, furniture makers, tilers, and painters, we have woven together a cohesive narrative that exemplifies how diverse skills and disciplines can converge to breathe life into an idea. The result is a vibrant, elegant space that pays homage to the past while embracing the future.

The Olive Bar has more than doubled in size, and features a wrap-around bar and floor-to- ceiling windows. The Terrace offers a stylish alfresco dining experience, while the Piano Lounge features comfortable lounge seating and recliners for guests to enjoy live performances by pianists.

Qunu's Executive Chef Matthew Foxon has created new menus honouring South Africa's rich gastronomic heritage while incorporating contemporary influences. Guests have the option of a two, three or four-course menu paired with wines served by Saxon's expert sommeliers. The six-course tasting menu, available from Thursday to Saturday, leads guests on a journey through Qunu favourites and innovative new dishes.
