Iau Gold Label Status Reaffirms Two Oceans Marathon's Prestige On The Global Stage

The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon has once again been awarded the coveted Gold Label Status by the International Association of Ultrarunners IAU ahead of the high-anticipated 2025 race

Thursday marked 50 days before big day in Cape Town, with the 56km ultra-marathon being run on Saturday, April 5, while the half-marathon will take place the following day.

Since its introduction in 2008, the Gold Label has become synonymous with high standards in ultra marathon racing, serving as a benchmark for events around the globe. The IAU's esteemed recognition means that all continental and international records set during the upcoming race will be officially validated by both the IAU and World Athletics, elevating the event to even greater heights.

The process for retaining this elite status is rigorous. The Two Oceans Marathon must submit a formal application each year, demonstrating compliance with stringent criteria including an accurate race course measurement using a Jones Counter and adherence to World Athletics regulations. Furthermore, the organisation must consistently follow the technical and organisational guidelines published for IAU Championships.

This highest of accolades by the International Association of Ultrarunners and World Athletics underscores the fact that the Two Oceans Marathon is on a par with the most prestigious ultra marathons around the globe, stated Hilton Kearns, Race Manager of the Two Oceans Marathon.
