Hijacking Of Eskom Employee In Kzn Condemned

The KwaZulu-Natal Co-operative Governance Department has condemned criminal attacks on essential services.

This after hijackers took an Eskom employee for eight hours and stripped the power utilitys bakkie of its parts.

The departments spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says the incident took place in the Ndlangubo area at Empangeni on Saturday. The incident has left the Eskom employee traumatised.

Mzila says MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi considers such attacks to be economically counter-productive.

The MEC believes that these attacks against essential workers who are dedicated to serving communities are unacceptable and undermine efforts to ensure reliable access to basic services like electricity and water. The MEC has also highlighted the increasing frequency of such incidents and their detrimental effect on communities. The MEC has appealed on communities to work together with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of service delivery personnel Mzila said.
