The Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg has failed to spend R98-million of its budget for machinery and equipment in the last five years.

This is contained in a written reply to a question to Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko by the DAs Gauteng Health spokesperson Jack Bloom in the Gauteng Legislature.

The hospital is more than 70-years-old and needs upgrades to its water infrastructure, patient wards and offices.

A social media video taken by podcaster Tom London, who had been admitted at the hospital, showed some of the crumbling infrastructure.

London complained in the video of poor staff attitude at the hospital.
