Hawks Swoop On Suspect Allegedly Linked To Violent Robbery Of Dutch Tourists' In Mpumalanga

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) has arrested a 42-year-old man following an armed robbery of a Dutch couple, holidaying in Mpumalanga.

Police said the suspect, along with two other approached the couple as they were driving along the R35 road between Barberton and Badplaas, earlier this week.

'It is alleged that the Dutch couple, were driving a rented Toyota Cross when a dark coloured VW Polo passed them. They kept on driving when the Polo with three occupants drove parallel to their vehicle and fired at the driver, injuring the driver on his right hand,' said police spokesperson, Captain Sekgotodi Dineo.

The couple stopped their vehicle and the men robbed them of their valuables.

'A team comprising of Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence and Flying Squad operationalised the information. The suspect was arrested and found in possession of the stolen items belonging to the victims,' Dineo said.
