hawks arrest alleged human trafficker in western cape

The Hawks in the Western Cape have arrested one person at a house in Kraaifontein, alleged to be involved in human trafficking.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani says the suspect had been under investigation since earlier this year on suspicion of trafficking another victim from Nigeria for sexual exploitation.

Hani says a preliminary investigation discovered that four possible victims in the house are not trafficked but are illegally in South Africa.

All five individuals will be appearing at the Kuilsriver Magistrates Court tomorrow on a charge of contravention of the Immigration Act.

The alleged trafficker will face a further charge of trafficking in persons.
