Gwamanda Placed On Special Leave
Former Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has been placed on special leave effective immediately.
This follows Gwamandas arrest last Friday.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority NPA, Gwamanda appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court on the same day together with his co-accused Mduduzi Zonde.
They are charged with fraud amounting to R12 000. However, they were both released on R2 000 bail and the case has been postponed to 3 December.
"The severity of these allegations demands a proactive response to protect the integrity of the Office of the Executive Mayor. In line with the Citys commitment to integrity, good governance, and accountability, the executive mayor has decided to place MMC Gwamanda on special leave, effective immediately, and relieve him of all his executive duties," says Spokesperson for the City of Johannesburg, Nthatisi Modingoane.
