Ilkay Gundogan re-signed for Manchester City on Friday, saying he was back at the best club in the world. He had previously been with Barcelona .
During his first stint at City, the former German international won 12 major trophies, including five Premier League titles and the Champions League, but left the English champions to join Barcelona just over a year ago.
The 33-year-old and the Catalan giants reportedly decided to void his contract after just one season to make room for a one-year return to the Etihad.
Im incredibly happy, Gundogan said in a City statement. Happy to see the teammates, the staff, and the people I had a fantastic time with over seven years. It was a very successful time. There were many ups and a few downs, but in general, it was an incredible experience.
When you leave this place like I did last year, you spend a year away and start to appreciate the place even more. You realise what you had. You realise how amazing that time was.
