Grouporganises Summit On Ai For Competency, Future Relevance

As the world rapidly embraces the rise of Artificial Intelligence AI and its growing influence, the Vocational Service Committee of Rotary International, District 9111, in partnership with FirmCloud, hosted a transformative session titled Mastering AI to Advance the Ideals of Rotary at the Rotary Centre in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

During the event, District Governor Wole Kukoyi emphasized the increasing importance of AI, noting that while the advent of the Internet was groundbreaking, the rise of AI will have an even greater impact. He stressed the need for international organizations like Rotary International to recognize AI's potential and embrace its positive aspects. He also highlighted that AI could align with the Rotary Four-Way Test, encouraging members to explore its benefits in a way that complements the organization's values.

Adeyemi Benson, Chairman of the Vocational Service Committee, explained that the event aimed to enhance vocational skills and build capacity within Rotary, preparing members for future challenges while maintaining the organization's relevance. He further remarked that AI is here to stay, particularly in areas such as information gathering, sharing, and management. Benson also mentioned that the United Arab Emirates would host a global AI summit, drawing participants from 180 countries, emphasizing the growing importance of AI on the global stage. He urged Rotary to rethink its approach to remain at the forefront of innovation.

The events facilitator, Kelly Oriabure, CEO of FirmCloud Limited, explained that the session was designed to introduce Rotarians to the evolving landscape of AI and its transformative potential. Oriabure highlighted that AI technologies, such as AI Personal Assistants, ChatGPT, and Voice Assistants, would make daily tasks more efficient, faster, and more accurate. He emphasized that AI's ability to learn, adapt, and improve far exceeds human capacity, noting that AI language models can process and manage information at levels unimaginable for a single human.

"The capacity for AI to learn, relearn, and improve is far beyond what any individual can assimilate," Oriabure warned, urging attendees to recognize the profound impact AI will have on various aspects of life and work.
