The Zulu proverb that says Ukuzala ukuzelula amathambo which when translated means, to have children is to strengthen your bones rings true when you hear the story of iconic gospel choir Amadodana Ase Wesile celebrating its 40th anniversary next year.

Thabang Buthelezi, who is the granddaughter of founding member of Amadodana Ase Wesile, Thomas Mokhati, has taken it upon herself to tell the story of the group, through a documentary, after learning of the milestone.

At the Provenance opening, he told me that the group is celebrating its 40th anniversary next year in August. Thats when I knew that I had to do something special, Buthelezi told The Citizen .

Earlier this year fashion designer Lukhanyo Mdingi paid homage to the ensemble by highlighting the influence their music had on him, through his exhibition The Provenance Part II.

Thats what ignited Buthelezis idea to do something around the group she grew up around.
