Goretzka Double Steers Bayern To Commanding Lead In Bundesliga
Leon Goretzka netted twice as Bayern Munich edged past Wolfsburg 3-2 at home on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to seven points over reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen.
Goretzka, thriving under coach Vincent Kompany this season, opened the scoring with a precise low strike after 20 minutes. Wolfsburg, however, quickly responded with a Mohammed Amoura goal against the run of play.
Bayern regained control before halftime when Michael Olise, starting in place of the recovering Jamal Musiala, completed a slick team move to restore their lead.
In the 62nd minute, Goretzka doubled his tally with a header from an Olise free-kick. Wolfsburg managed a late second through Amoura with two minutes remaining but couldn't find an equaliser, leaving their winless streak in Munich intact at 32 games-30 of which have been losses.
Bayer Leverkusen have a chance to reduce Bayerns lead to four points if they secure a victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach later in the day.
