Golden Arrows Confirm Return Of Manqoba Mngqithi As Head Coach

Betway Premiership side Lamontville Golden Arrows have announced the appointment of Manqoba Mngqithi as head coach.

The 53-year-old experienced tactician has been out of a job since Mamelodi Sundowns let him go in December last year.

Manqoba Mngqithi returns to Golden Arrows

Golden Arrows shared a video on X of Mngqithi, other technical staff and players at their training ground on Monday 3 March, confirming his return. They captioned it, Welcome back.

Mngqithi previously coached Abafana Besthende in two stints - from 2007 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2013. He left the club to become assistant coach at Mamelodi Sundowns in 2013.

He rose to become Masandawanas senior coach in 2022 before being elevated to head coach in July 2024 following Rulani Mokwenas departure.

Golden Arrows did not reveal contract terms. Prior to the announcement, Mngqithi was linked to top Rwandan side APR over the past few weeks.

APR had reportedly enticed him with a lucrative offer. However, sources told iDiski Times that he ultimately decided against the move and opted for Arrows because of his emotional connection to the KwaZulu-Natal club.

Mngqithi won the 2009 MTN8 title during his first stint at Arrows, who are currently 11th in the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership table with 20 points from 16 games.

The club has won just five games so far this season, drawing five and losing six.
