Cape Town's V A Waterfront is set to redefine luxury shopping in South Africa as global fashion giants Dolce Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci prepare to anchor an ambitious new retail expansion.

The development will nearly triple the mall's high-end retail space to 4 000 square meters, consolidating its status as the country's premier luxury shopping destination.

Currently, these brands are scattered throughout the mall, but the expansion will bring them together in a dedicated wing, doubling their store sizes and creating a seamless luxury experience. The project, which will cost R207 million, is also expected to introduce up to six additional premium brands, including Versace, alongside existing high-end retailers such as Burberry and MaXhosa Africa, as first reported by Moneyweb .

Cape Town's growing demand for designer goods is fuelled by a mix of international tourists, wealthy local shoppers, and an increasing number of high-net-worth individuals relocating to the city. Economic forecasts predict that Cape Town will surpass Johannesburg as Africa's wealthiest city by 2030, further driving the market for luxury retail.

The V A Waterfront has already reported record-breaking sales, with December 2024 alone generating R1.4 billion in retail revenue. Over the past five years, trading density for luxury brands in South African malls has surged by 171, reflecting the sector's rapid growth.
