Glenrose Xaba on Sunday broke Elana Meyers long-standing South African womens 10km record as she finished fourth in 31min 12sec behind three East Africans at the Absa Run Your City event in Durban.

The womens race was won by Kenyan Christine Njoki in a 3037 personal best, ahead of Debash Desta of Ethiopia 3100 and Judith Kiyeng, a former Kenyan 1,500m champion 3110.

Xabas Boxer Superstores teammate Elroy Gelant, who will compete in the Paris Olympic marathon next month, won the mens race in 2747, ahead of Kabelo Mulaudzi 2753 and Thabang Mosiako 2754.

Gelants Games teammate Stephen Mokoka was fifth in 2756.

Xabas previous best time was the 3217 she ran in Cape Town in March, but her performance on Sunday put her top of the all-time South African list, leapfrogging Tayla Kavanagh 3210, Irvette van Zyl 3206, Dominique Scott 3159, Colleen de Reuck 3129 and Meyer, who clocked 3113 in Budapest in October 2001.
