Lead investigating officer, Bongani Gininda, faced intense questioning about the role of singer Kelly Khumalo in the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa during the ongoing trial of five men accused of his killing. The murder occurred in 2014 at Khumalo's parental home in Vosloorus, Gauteng. Defence counsel, Sipho Ramosepele, probed whether Khumalo was truly the mastermind behind Meyiwa's death and questioned if there was enough evidence to implicate her as the central figure in the crime.
Gininda responded, stating that although Khumalo has not been formally charged, he believes there is enough evidence to suggest her involvement. However, he struggled to provide clarity on whether the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP in Pretoria had considered Khumalo as the mastermind when making decisions related to the case. He expressed confusion about why it was difficult to determine if Khumalos involvement was part of the investigative narrative presented to the DPP before their decision to move forward with the charges against the accused.
The questioning points to ongoing uncertainty regarding Khumalo's role in the case, despite her being a key figure at the scene of the crime.
