Humanitarian Aid Organisation, Gift of the Givers, is setting up a relief centre at a community hall at Estcourt in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands to provide assistance and hot meals to those commuters who are entrapped in the snow .

Founder, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman says his teams are also working with the N3 Toll Concession and Emergency Services and driving behind the graders removing snow from the roads to reach those motorists who are entrapped.

Those guys are going to try to open the roads with graders and when they do that my teams are gonna try to follow them with blankets, energy biscuits and drinks to get to those people that may be stuck further inwards but as the roads open up some people may try to get out.

Sooliman says, In addition to that, weve spoken to tow trucks, they say they are also stuck, many cannot move. Weve spoken to private helicopters (operators), they say they cant fly. Weve spoken to farmers to assist the people stranded in the area. People need their cars to be pulled out.

We are willing to pay the costs and the fuel costs to help people to come out. Weve spoken to some garages on the N3 to say if people come across and they need some hot meals or some snacks and they have difficulties and challenges even truck drivers well pay for that also, he adds.
