Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 English Premier League season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament ACL injury while playing for the Black Stars in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON qualifier against Angola last week.
The 20-year-old wingers injury is a significant blow not only to his club, Leicester City, but also to the Black Stars' upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March 2025, when Ghana is set to face Chad and Madagascar. Leicester confirmed the extent of Issahakus injury, which will keep him sidelined for the long term.
Leicester manager Steve Cooper expressed sympathy for the player, describing the injury as "serious" and emphasizing the challenge of recovering from an ACL tear, especially for a young player like Issahaku. Its not good, its a serious injury, said Cooper. For it to happen at a young age is a blow for him and a blow for us. Its part of football, but still a serious injury.
Cooper further stressed the importance of supporting Issahaku during his rehabilitation process, with the hope that he will return stronger both as a player and as a person. We need to get ourselves together and support him. Hes a big talent and an exciting young player. He was showing a lot of promise in the Premier League, and we were enjoying being on his journey. This is just a pause, and were confident that with his mentality, hell come back stronger.
Issahaku, who had been making strides in the Premier League, had garnered attention for his potential. His absence will be felt by both Leicester and the Black Stars, but with the right recovery, the young talent will aim for a successful return to the field.
