As part of Heritage Month celebrations, Capetonians can gain free entry to the City's nature reserves and participate in a citizen scientist event that showcases beautiful biodiversity, Cape {town} Etc reports.

From Friday, 20 September to Monday, 23 September, residents can visit the City's nature reserves for free and record and identify wildlife using the iNaturalist app.

The initiative forms part of the upcoming Great Southern Bioblitz , which provides an opportunity for all Southern Hemisphere countries to record organisms during Spring.

'Much like the popular City Nature Challenge, cities in the southern hemisphere compete against each other to see who can record the widest range of plant and animal species during the course of the challenge,' the City's Mayco member of spatial planning and environment Eddie Andrews said.

'With a wide array of nature reserves, I am certain Cape Town will come out tops and I encourage residents to take along their smartphones or cameras and snap as many unique sightings as they can at the reserves.'
