gde calls on school vendors to obtain certificate of acceptability

The Gauteng Department of Education has called on vendors operating on school premises to obtain a valid Certificate of Acceptability.

This to ensure the safety of learners who buy from the vendors.

The departments call follows President Cyril Ramaphosas announcement, giving spaza shop owners 21 days to register their businesses.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says tuck shops, vendors and traders may operate on school premises only if they comply with the requirements.

Districts offices and schools are also required to implement measures accordingly. This includes submitting daily reports on food-related incidents using a standard template, sharing of food safety tips and awareness material to the school communities.
