Gauteng Plans To Increase Patient Fees At Public Hospitals By 4.4

Patient fees at public hospitals could increase by 4.4 from April 1 this year in Gauteng. That is if the Gauteng Health Departments proposed tariffs are approved by the Gauteng Legislature.

The department is also proposing a 30 increase in Emergency Health Services Standby tariffs for patients involved in major incidents.

This means individuals with a household income of less than R8 000 a month requiring an ambulance with advanced life support, will now be charged R170 an increase of R10.

The same patient consulting a specialist practitioner at a provincial hospital will be charged R95 per visit.

We want to call on the public that once we have gotten the approvals, those that qualify to pay for service to ensure that they comply with this because it assists us in terms of sustaining the services across the board. We remain committed to providing accessible quality high-care services to all residents in Gauteng," says Gauteng Health spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba.
