Gauteng Motorists Urged To Exercise Caution Amid Rainy Weather

The Johannesburg Emergency Services has warned motorists to be vigilant on the roads following heavy downpours in the city and surrounding areas.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the roads are wet and this could lead to serious collisions.

He says motorists and pedestrians should avoid crossing low-lying and flooded bridges.

Mulaudzi has also urged people in low-lying areas and informal settlements to evacuate should the need arise.

"It's raining in most parts of the City. Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving. Maintain a safe following distance. Avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges. Our residents in our low-lying areas avoid crossing river streams. We remain on high alert monitoring all seven regions of the City for any emergencies which may occur," explains Mulaudzi.
